DVM – Owner and Founder
Johanna Pothast is an experienced veterinarian and the owner and founder of Trackside Veterinary Clinic. She obtained her Doctorate’s in Veterinary Medicine from University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine and Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She additionally has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University.
Dr. Pothast has nearly two decades of experience practicing rural veterinary medicine in multiple species disciplines. She has developed special skills in companion animal medicine and surgery, spanning preventative health care, internal medicine, dermatology, endocrinology, radiology, cardiology, soft tissue surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics, geriatric medicine, palliative care, and emergency medicine for both dogs and cats.
Dr. Pothast spent considerable time on the animal husbandry staff at the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium in Omaha earlier in her pre-professional career, and is comfortable working on numerous species of animals, including exotic pets. She grew up owning and competitively showing horses, and enjoys providing basic field work, preventative care, dentistry, and first aid to equine patients. Much of her veterinary experience in her career thus far has involved ambulatory multi-species farm work.
She has worked extensively with the local humane society providing high-quality, affordable, and high volume medical and surgical care for adoptable pets in the region.
She is a dedicated parent and an active volunteer in her community, serving on multiple committees that support small business development and downtown economic vitality, as well as co-leading her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. Dr. Pothast loves to teach and has established herself as a mentor to younger people aspiring to work with animals or pursue careers in veterinary medicine.
